Alts + adds to a ten-terrace row in Surry Hills. We love so many of the proposed moves to the original residences which seek to retain and reintroduce heritage features whilst improving access to light and air – but we’re most excited about the new rear elevation inclusive of a sculptural podium that slides under and in-between four new laneway dwellings. We have designed these around existing landscaping from a sensitive and robust palette of earth and aluminium, perforated and panelled against the masonry to offset its solidity. With parapets that raise to conceal beds that spill foliage, these dwellings are designed to provide character to an overlooked laneway, articulating a new face that gestures to the adjacent parkland
