S’WICH Bondi

Food + Beverage

We approached the brief for a new sandwich bar as a dynamic study in colour and shape through time. Blending brick construction with duotone interiors and custom sculptural furnishings, our design interplays raw and refined elements to present as a casual diner for the future. Bands of brand colour wrap the store, metal blades split prismatic panels and galvanised plates suspend crystalline blocks to create an artful environment that places focus on the produce and product on offer

WINNER BEST CAFE DESIGN – EAT DRINK DESIGN AWARDS 2023

Lang Road

2021

Residential

Works to a modernist residence c. 1960 stemming from a playful study of shapes and their interaction with light. We were fortunate to deliver designs of the interiors alongside custom furnishings and assist in the procurement of landscaping and artwork to deliver a special suite of spaces. Notably, for the master we designed a canopy of acrylic sections to slot through perforated panels that fold from the roofline to create a sculptural ceiling run. An expanse of walnut forms the basis of the walk-in robes with panel splits defined by blades that triangulate on corners – serving as supports and shelving.  Our favourite – the conversation pit – is created by a low-slung timber box topped with chamfered cushions that wrap and sink beneath

Palmer Street

2021

Residential

A structure lofted above a textile showroom, Palmer Street is equal parts home, gallery and studio. Inside, the space moves between moments of sparsity and saturation, of rigour and looseness, to provide respite and allure. Playful fixtures fall from ceilings, angular sideboards sit to bladed balustrades, low slung furnishings stretch across rooms and vibrant forms adorn walls to deliver a time-capsuled love letter to design⁣

Gerling House

2021

Commercial

An irregular floor plate of a Victorian warehouse, this project sought to uncover and recover character whilst creating a contemporary, functional office space. Render stripped, risers exposed and suspended ceilings removed to showcase original timber spans, services and masonry, with new steel rolled to support tired century-old brickwork beneath. To the centre, a single low-lying kitchen bay with shadowed poly doors topped with chunky Corian services the entire plate, framed by reinstated ironbark trussing. Adjacent, amenities are detailed with oversized pivot doors, concealed storage and contrasting porcelain tiling that references the heritage façade’s stucco

St. James Trust

2021

Commercial

For this suite of spaces within a heritage commercial building we stripped the surfaces bare before inserting glossy mouldings, stone skirtings and timber parquetry. For the boardroom’s centre we designed a coated steel table with tessellated marble inlay that projects geometries from the building’s era

Gerling Basement

2020

Commercial

Situated underneath a Victorian warehouse to the north of the city, this project reinstills life into an overlooked space, reinstating and injecting heritage character throughout. Bricks are stripped of paint, walls removed to reveal the original span of the timber structure and new masonry provides a nook for a kitchenette that tucks to the east. Previously untreated ceilings are acoustically sheeted with recessed linear lighting to joist junctions, structure and associated fixtures painted and sprinkler runs lifted to maximise heights throughout
